La Unión Foundation

La Unión is a Spanish school with over 25 years of experience that is dedicated to offering Spanish classes to foreigners and above all to provide help and opportunities to many Guatemalans in the integral development of their communities and families. In the first place, we wish to thank you for the time and dedication to this matter and above all to have opened your hearts to support and listen to the needs of many Guatemalan people.

For many years now, La Unión has developed several projects and programs that have facilitated access to better work opportunities, life conditions, health and level of education in different areas such as EDUCATION, HEALTH, HOUSING, ENVIRONMENT, MICRO COMPANIES, FOOD SECURITY, ELDERS etc, benefiting an average of 25 000 children, 10 000 women, 6 000 men and numerous families of various communities living with scarce resources and in extreme poverty, with few opportunities of being recognized and included in their community.

Our goal is to continue offering the necessary tools to people who seek opportunities to specialize and professionalize through technical training and courses, so they can then start an entrepreneurship project and thus provide work opportunities to Guatemalans of their own community.

To do so, we need support from people with a big heart like you to join us in fighting inequality, unemployment, malnutrition and lack of education. It is a way to help the MIGRANTS who return to Guatemala with less possibilities, to those who are think to MIGRATE because of the lack of employment and development, the CHILDREN and TEENAGERS who have not been able to pursue their educational training due to lack of funds or for psychological and/or family reasons,  the WOMEN who never had the opportunity to become someone in life and to support the finances of their family, or the PROFESSIONALS that stopped studying and do not find jobs.

Those are the many reasons why we have united our efforts with INATUR (National Institute of Tourism) and FORMATUR (Training Center for Professionals), LICEO SANTA FE (kindergarden, elementary and high school) and the foundation ETERNA PRIMAVERA (providing social, moral and profesional support). Together, we seek to support at least 2,000 people directly and indirectly amoung children, teenagers and adults through the following projects:

PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION PROGRAM:

PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION PROGRAM:

The main idea of these courses is to train and strengthen all those people who have nod had opportunities in life to apply for a good job. Another objective of the courses is to teach them how to start their own business through ENTREPRENEURSHIP, providing them with all the necessary advices and training as well as binding them with companies or organizations that can financially support the dream of entrepreneurship of each participant. To those who only wish to get training, we will prepare them to find better job opportunities.

  • Pastry courses
  • Design and sewing courses
  • Haircut courses
  • National and international gastronomy courses
MIGRANT PROGRAM

MIGRANT PROGRAM

Finding a job and reuniting the family are the two main causes why thousands of Guatemalans migrate to other countries to improve their economic conditions. Actually, more than 1 million 627 thousand Guatemalans live outside of the country. 90.5% of those who undertake this trip seek to increase their economic income through employment abroad.

Guatemala receives an average of 75,000 deportees annually.  Many of them have already sold their house and land or have acquired a credit at the bank to finance their trip, so they return with even less hope than they had when they decide to undertake this journey.

«The country does not offer  the professional or economic conditions to promote the integral development of these people. » This is why we created the PRO MIGRANT and ANTI MIGRANT program with the objective of helping with workshops and courses on how to start an enterprise and thus generate income and give employment opportunities to more people.

The “pro-migrant” and Anti Migrant program, aims to motivate the Guatemalan person to invest in their own country, through professional entrepreneurship training.

We are currently making contact with different financial companies and organizations that can support financially with future reimbursement.

One of the objectives of the program is to provide what is necessary, starting with courses or workshops to prepare them professionally and mentally and thus be able to start with a business that facilitates job development for more people and especially their community. We will help them how to start with a micro business, individually or by cooperative

In the same route, we will specialize anyone who has the interest of being part of the tourism industry, such as: Hotels, restaurants, travel agencies among others, and with alliances with many tourist companies we can provide job opportunities

For all the above, the Entrepreneurship Project to support Migrants yearns for multisectoral collaboration to prevent emigration, family breakdown and education lag in our countries and promote opportunities and a better quality of life for all.

Support us to cover the expenses of trainers, psychologists, (Personnel in general) furniture and equipment, supplies and many other things.

SCHOLARSHIPS

MARIO LOPEZ

He is a 12-year-old, lives in Ciudad Vieja town, his father has been in prison for 4 years, for having indirectly participated in alcoholism problems with other people and was already sentenced for 10 years in prison.

Mario currently lives with his younger brother (Maco), he is 10 year old and his mother (Angelica) who fights hard every day to give them something to eat, the only economic income she receives is from a sale Granizadas (flavored ground ice) at the streets and have Q1.00 cost.

Mario has only the sixth grade of primary school and since his father went to prison he has not studied again because of the economic situation. Because apart from not having the economic possibilities, he sees the cruel reality of life and that forces him to work to support his family. Although the salary he receives (Q200 / US $ 25) each week does not reach much.

Mario’s dream is to continue studying to be a professional and to have a decent job or even a business of his own that can help his whole family.

Like Mario, there are many children and young people in all Guatemala without many options or opportunities to continue studying, the economic situation is very limited and the education in Guatemala is not completely free.

We currently have a list of at least 250 children, youth and adults, who have not been studying for some time.
