Scholarships – Vuelta Grande and El Hato

Education to Change Lives

Vuelta Grande and El Hato

Dream Volunteers, in partnership with La Unión, is working in the communities of Vuelta Grande and El Hato to empower children and help provide them with education. Various international groups which have come through La Unión have helped with the construction of a school in each community.

The organization Dream Volunteers enables youth from these communities to pursue their dreams by providing scholarships to 22 young people so that they can have access to education only available in Antigua. Unfortunately, there still remain more youth with the desire to study than there are scholarships available.

El Hato

The community of El Hato, which is 100% indigenous, is located in the mountains of Antigua, Guatemala, about 40 minutes from the city. Since the village is small and remote, it has limited public services. The purpose and main goal of Escuela El Hato is to provide pre-school and primary education to children in the community.

Vuelta Grande

Vuelta Grande is a community located approximately 25 minutes from Antigua Guatemala. It has a population of 1,200 people, all of whom are indigenous.

The people of Vuelta Grande live on the crops they are able to cultivate, and from the sales of their products at the market in the city of Antigua. Furthermore, they do not have access to public transportation and have limited electricity and water.

The purpose and goal of Escuela Vuelta Grande is to provide primary education to all children.

Amarillis Yolanda Bixcul Castro is a 12 year old girl from Vuelta Grande who dreams to pursue her studies.

Fortunately, we were able to obtain a scholarship to send her to school for another year. However there still remain many more children in Amarillis´village with the same desire but who lack the funds to continue studying.

Our goal is to raise $ 1,200 to send another child like Amarillis to school for another year so that they can dream of a better future.
