Biblioteca Comunal Luís de Lión

The library is located in San Juan del Obispo and was founded in the eighties, but because of the armed conflict, the Government closed all libraries, including Biblioteca Comunal Luis de Liòn (reading was prohibited). In reaction; responsible citizens took the books from the libraries to their homes. In 1992, the library was opened again to the public as Biblioteca Comunal Luis de Lión (named in honor of Luis de Lión, one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, who was born in San Juan del Obispo).

Unfortunately, there was no one who could maintain the library, so it was not until 2006 when the group “Probiblioteca” (a majority of young people, including the writer’s daughter (Mayarí de León González)), took on the challenge of keeping the library open on a continual basis.
The goal of this library is to give support and education to children and teenagers in the areas of painting, music, and public speaking; in addition to preserving the memory of the Luis de Lion.
