Do I need a visa?
Citizens of the USA, Canada, and most Western European countries do not need a visa to enter Guatemala. Upon entry into Guatemala, immigration typically will issue a 90-day visa. Make sure that you ask, however, as sometimes they give only 30 days if they think that you are only visiting as a tourist. It is not a problem, just ask for 90 days. If you want to stay longer than 3 months, you may apply for an extension in Guatemala City. For those staying longer than 6 months, you can make a visit to a neighboring country and return, thus starting fresh. These are usually merely formalities. Citizens of other countries should contact the nearest Guatemalan embassy or consulate. The website address for visa information for citizens of other countries residing in the USA is http://www.guatemala-embassy.org/visas.asp.
