If you would like to know more about the Guatemalan culture and learn more Spanish we recommend that you live with a Guatemalan family or in our student guesthouse at Antigua Guatemala or Ciudad Vieja.

If you use our transportation service we will take you directly from the airport to your Guatemalan family at any time via private transportation. Our families are very happy when the students arrive directly at their homes. The airport “La Aurora" is situated in Guatemala City, only 45 kilometers from Antigua Guatemala.

Lodging With Guatemalan Families

Spanish School La Union offers the opportunity to live with Guatemalan families, located in the towns of Antigua Guatemala, Ciudad Vieja, San Miguel Escobar, San Antonio Aguas Calientes and Alotenango. The students receive 3 meals daily (vegetarian too) Monday through Saturday, 7 nights of lodging in a private room, hot shower and purified water. Living with a family enables students to participate in family social events, and gives students the opportunity to improve their Spanish and their knowledge of cultural and historical aspects of Guatemala.

San Miguel Escobar is located only 3 kilometers from Antigua Guatemala, Ciudad Vieja is 5 kilometers (12 minutes), San Antonio Aguas Calientes is 9 kilometers (20 minutes) and Alotenango is 11 kilometers (about 20 minutes). The homes of our families are situated in the center of town. An interesting historical fact is that Ciudad Vieja was the second capital of the Guatemalan Kingdom back in 1525. Our spanish school is located in Antigua Guatemala, a touristy town with all the amenities that visitors expect and with opportunities to speak your language (which can be an issue if you really want to deepen your Spanish). In Ciudad Vieja, San Miguel Escobar, San Antonio Aguas Calientes, and Alotenango, Spanish is the dominant language and tourists are not commonly seen. To travel to these villages it is necessary to take a “camioneta" (public bus) which leaves every 10 minutes. Weekly cost: With shared bathroom $75.00, and $15.00 per additional day; with private bathroom $105.00 per week, and $25.00 per additional day.

Lodging in Our Student Guesthouse

There is also the option to stay in our guesthouse (7 nights of lodging in a private room and 3 meals per day from Monday to Saturday). The guesthouse is at Antigua Guatemala and takes 5 minute walk from Spanish School La Unionl and there are rooms with private or shared bathroom available and a beautiful garden. There is a lady who eats with you during meal times so you can practice more Spanish.

Weekly cost: With shared bathroom $90.00, private bathroom $105.00. The cost per additional day is: With private or shared bathroom $20.00.

Aparment or Hotel

Spanish School La Union offers two apartments inside the school surrounded by a lovely garden, with well equipped kitchens (refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, percolator and water dispenser), bedrooms and bathrooms with hot water. To wash your clothes there is a “pila" (typical Guatemalan wash tub) in the garden or you can use our laundry service (at a cost) at school. Both apartments can be rented per week or per month. Small Apartment

This cozy apartment has a living room with a sofa and comfortable armchairs right next to a homey kitchen. It has a bedroom with a double bed, cable television and a separate bathroom with a shower.

Big Apartment

This apartment has two floors, and offers a veranda with a wooden table and armchairs. On the first floor there is a spacious kitchen, armchairs to rest, a guest bed and separate bathroom with a shower. On the second floor there are two bedrooms: one with a king sized bed, and the other with a double bed and a terrace with wooden armchairs from where you can enjoy a nice view.
