La Unión receives each year a large number of groups that come to Guatemala to Study Spanish but also to help the communities doing Volunteer work. In collaboration with our Canadian partner Horizon Cosmopolite, on October 31st, we received Collège Ste-Anne, a secondary school from Montreal Canada.
At Spanish School La Union, volunteers do not pay any supervision fee when both studying and working. If you would like to live with a Guatemalan family or in our student guesthouse and do volunteer work without studying Spanish, the cost for living with a family is different and there is a supervision fee of $25.00 per week (this is to pay for a staff person from Spanish School La Union who arranges a place in a social project for you – groups and individuals). If you work more than 2 weeks the supervision fee is $10.00 per week.
If you would like to be a teacher, but you do not have any experience, that is no problem; you can work as an auxiliary teacher in a public school, but it is necessary that your Spanish level be intermediate or higher so that you can teach the children.
If you would like to know more about the Guatemalan culture and learn more Spanish we recommend that you live with a Guatemalan family or in our student guesthouse at Antigua Guatemala or Ciudad Vieja.
If you use our transportation service we will take you directly from the airport to your Guatemalan family at any time via private transportation. Our families are very happy when the students arrive directly at their homes. The airport “La Aurora" is situated in Guatemala City, only 45 kilometers from Antigua Guatemala.
We are a group of specialized Guatemalan teachers with experience working with Peace Corps volunteers preparing them to do social work. We decided to found Spanish School La Unión in the city of Antigua with the objective of sharing our abilities with people who want to learn Spanish as a second language and at the same time learn about Guatemalan culture. Our teaching methods are innovative and we have successfully prepared hundreds of volunteers and students for various careers. We can do the same for you.
