Education to Change Lives

Vuelta Grande and El Hato

Dream Volunteer in partnership with La Unión is working in these two communities to empower children by helping to provide them with education. Various international groups that came through La Unión help with the construction of a school in each community. The organization Dream Volunteer enables youth from these communities to pursue their dreams by providing scholarships to 19 young people so that they can have access to an education. Unfortunately, there are more people that want to study than there are scholarships.

El Hato

The community, which is 100% indigenous, is located in the mountains of Antigua, Guatemala, about 40 minutes from the city. Since the community is small, it has limited public services. The purpose and main goal of Escuela El Hato is to provide pre-school and primary education to children in the community.

Vuelta Grande

Vuelta Grande is a community located approximately 25 minutes from Antigua Guatemala. It has a population of 1,200 people, all of whom are indigenous. The people of Vuelta Grande live on the crops they are able to cultivate, and from the sales of their products at the market in Antigua Guatemala. Furthermore, they do not have access to public transportation and have limited electricity and water.

The purpose and goal of Escuela Vuelta Grande is to provide primary education to all children.

Amarillis Yolanda Bixcul Castro is a 12 years old girl from Vuelta Grande who dreams to pursue her studies.  Sadly, we lack of funds to send her to school for another year. Our goal is to raise $ 1,200 to send her to school for another year so that she could dream of a better future.
