“Défi Guatemala 2011” (Guatemala Challenge 2011)

Educators from the CRDI-Rimouski in Quebec, Canada(a rehabilitation center for developmental disabilities) had a dream: travel to Guatemala.  Seven people living with developmental disabilities and seven educators met the challenge by coming to La Antigua Guatemala for then days. The group worked in the El Hato community where they painted the walls surrunding the soccer field, took Spanish classes in La Unión Spanish School and did volunteer work with children in the Vuelta Grande community. Participants also visited Lake Atitlan and climbed the Pacaya volcano.

La Unión Spanish School held a despedida (Goodbye party) on the last night of their stay, serving a nice typical super: Pepian with tortillas and frijoles. Each participant received a diploma to highlight his or her success in the Spanish classes. It was a nice way to say thank you for your visit and congratulations for everything you accomplished.

They left their mark in our heart and we hope to see them in a near future.
