Vuelta Grande School
Vuelta Grande is a community located approximately 25 minutes from Antigua, Guatemala. It has a population of 1,200 people, all of whom are indigenous. The people of Vuelta Grande live on the crops they are able to cultivate, and from the sales of their products at the market in Antigua. Furthermore, they do not have access to public transportation and have limited electricity and water.
The purpose and goal of Escuela Vuelta Grande is to provide primary education to all children. Currently, there are about 150 children at the school (ages 4 to 15 years old) all of whom live in extreme poverty.
Centro Lingüístico “La Unión” has assisted and supported the project for the past two years in repairing, painting, supporting the school, and assisting with other needed services. A health center, boys and girls bathrooms, and a stadium have been built, which have been an additional benefit to the students. With the help of individual volunteers and volunteer groups from many countries, the project has been able to make a huge difference in the lives of children.
