This hospice is a private, non-profit organization which is made up of its board of directors who work to gather funds through raffles, bingos, cooking classes, etc. This foundation is associated with the Guardería María de Nazaret, which has 80 employees.

The hospice was founded on October 4, 1991, and is located on La PLazuela of San Gaspar Vivar, 15 minutes from the center of Antigua. 80 children and adults live there who are between 2-40 years of age. Children and adults suffer from cerebral palsy and its aftereffects. The staff includes a physician, dentist, physical therapist, nurses, and attendants.

The purpose and goal of the organization is to provide for the well being of children and adults with disabilities, as well as to offer therapy and classes to prevent the spread of disease, etc. Additionally, the children and adults receive balanced meals which are usually blended in a food processor to make them easier for the children and adults to eat. Once in the hospice, the children stay as permanent guests and become part of the institution. Many times children are left by their families and completely forgotten.

As the children and adults are notable to care for themselves, there is a staff of 42 to 44 attendants and nurses.

Volunteers (preferably women) with a degree in physical therapy are needed. The schedule is from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. or from 8:00 a.m.-12 p.m. Volunteers are always very welcome.

If you wish you can donate medicine or money (which is in great need) to help mitigate the costs caused by the long-term care of the children and adults in the hospice. The Fundación Albergue Hermano Pedro would be happy to receive your help.
