Which airlines go to Guatemala? Which airport do I fly into?
The main carriers to Guatemala from the USA are Delta from Atlanta and Continental from Houston. American Airlines (from Miami) and some others also fly direct. Please make sure that you fly into Guatemala City’s international airport La Aurora and not to the airport of Antigua, as the latter is a Caribbean Island! The airport La Aurora is the only international airport in Guatemala City (only 45 kilometers from Antigua).
Can I go to Tikal? How do I arrange the trip?
We will happily help you to organize this trip (see our travel agency’s complete website: Travel Agency ).
What is there to do in Guatemala?
Many students take advantage of Antigua’s central location to visit places such as volcanoes, the coast, huge outdoor markets, or beautiful Lake Atitlan. The weekends are free to explore Guatemala, and usually students arrange trips themselves or with the help of the school. Some go to the beaches on the Pacific coast. There are so many activities and traveling costs are minimal; it is best not to over plan and see what happens once you arrive. Arrangements can be made easily in town, with no advance notice required.
What are the prices for traveling to local areas of interest within Guatemala?
From Antigua, the average prices are: To Panajachel $150.00 in private bus with a maximum of 5 people, in a group tourist bus (collective transportation) $25.00 each person. To Chichicastenango $150.00 in private bus with a maximum of 5 people, in a group tourist bus (collective transportation) $25.00 each person. It is possible to reserve a bus for the Panajachel/Chichicastenango trip, as it may be cheaper to rent one for 2 days. We do this for $100.00 each passenger, including hotel and boat ride on Lake Atitlan (a minimum of 5 people). To Tikal $400.00 in private bus for 1 to 10 people, in a group tourist bus (collective transportation) $25.00 each person, by plane $295.00 round trip (package). We also organize these trips. To San Andres Itzapa (to see a Mayan God Maxima) $25.00 in private bus, in a group tourist bus (collective transportation) $7.00 each person. Minivan rentals are $125.00 per day for 11 people (with driver). For all these trips we use our OWN minivans driven by employees of our school, as part of our personalized service. We will be happy to take you anywhere (for more information about trips and everything related to transportation, please visit our website www.travel.launion.edu.gt
I am coming by bus. How do I reach the school from the bus station?
The bus station is on the opposite end of town. You want to go due east (west is the end of town), on 6ta. Calle Poniente (6th Street West) you will pass the Central Park, go to 1a. Avenida Sur (First Avenue South), close to San Francisco Church, and we are only half a block north of this large church (number 21).
I am thinking about driving. How much does gasoline cost in the region?
Prices fluctuate, but generally they are as follows: Guatemala: about 75 cents / liter, Honduras: about 85 cents / liter, Mexico: about $1.05 / liter.
