Familias de Esperanza
Common Hope was founded in 1986 by the Huebsch family. It is located on the road to San Juan del Obispo, about 15 minutes by bus from Antigua.
The purpose and goal of the organization is to foster hope and opportunity in Guatemala in association with children, families and communities who wish to participate in a process of development to improve their lives through education, health and housing.
Common Hope offers a large variety of activities for volunteers. Volunteers who wish to work in education and health fields need an advanced Spanish level. The organization is currently in need of people who have experience in professional fields, such as qualified physicians or medical students who are in their two last years of studies, or volunteers with former similar experience are needed. Volunteers are also welcome to work in construction or other areas.
Furthermore, an important part of volunteer work is to translate letters from English to Spanish which godparents send to the children. This financial assistance provides the resources needed for the continued well being and education of the children. Letters help decrease the physical distance between the godparents and the children. Every child affiliated with the project knows that somebody cares for them and their well-being. The love which the godmothers or godfathers give is very important for the children.
If you are able to work an entire day at Common Hope you will receive a free lunch.
If you wish to work in this project you need to give at least 2 weeks of your time and also attend the project tour to better understand the work they do.
