This school was founded on April 25th, 1921 by the Government of Ciudad Vieja and neighbors. It is located in Ciudad Vieja, about 10 minutes by bus from Antigua.

The purpose and goal is to help and assist the youth in Ciudad Vieja to succeed academically.

The school is for girls from 6 to 14 years of age who are in Pre-School and Elementary School. Currently, the school includes 17 teachers and 545 girls (35 to 40 girls in every class), who receive classes in Spanish, mathematics, science, social studies, etc. During the break, the school offers the students a hot drink (variety of “atoles” = typical hot drinks in Guatemala) every day.

As a volunteer (preferably women), you can work as an assistant teacher in English and sports, and can play with the girls during the break. The schedule is from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To volunteer with this school, you need to know English, be able to communicate well, care for children, and get along well with youth. If you speak another language (like French, etc.), it will be a pleasure for the director to receive you as a volunteer. Volunteers are welcome for a day or more, but you will need an Intermediate Spanish level (be able to have a conversation).

If you wish you can donate food, clothing, or any other donation. The director of the Escuela Oficial Urbana de Niñas Francisco Marroquín Jornada Matutina will be happy to distribute your donation to the students.
