Centro de Cuidado Infantil Pasitos

This project was founded in June 2007 by Paola, the current director, and Victor Hugo Samayoa. It is situated in Jocotenango, about 10 minutes by bus from Antigua.

The aim and goal of the organization is to assist and offer major support to single mothers by leaving their child in the care of caring professional people. The center supports mothers who are poor and who are not able to pay for child care and work at the same time.

Centro de Cuidado Infantil Pasitos cares for children between the ages of birth to 7 years old, which allows for their mothers to work. The center provides early stimulation, massage, nutrition, and educational activities such as handcrafts, singing and listening to music in order to prepare the children for school when they leave the center.

As a volunteer, you can help to do the early stimulation, help the children do handcrafts, play with them, and do massage under supervision of the attendants. The schedule is from Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is also possible to work only half days; preferably in the morning as the kids take their nap in the afternoon. The project asks for one week of your time; a Beginner Spanish level is sufficient to volunteer (as there are bilingual employees). If you are a caring individual who has lots of enthusiasm to work with babies and children, the center will be very pleased to welcome you. As Centro de Cuidado Infantil Pasitos is in its beginning stages, and are looking for people or donations that can help to equip the center. They are also happy to receive any other donation (food, disposable diapers, learning aid, any kind of children games, etc.).
