Live with Guatemalan families in Antigua Guatemala

Through La Union Spanish School you can live with a Guatemalan host family in Antigua Guatemala or Ciudad Vieja or in in one of our student guesthouses here in Antigua Guatemala.

If you use our transportation service we will take you directly from the airport to your Guatemalan host family at any time via private transportation. Our host families are very happy when the students arrive directly to their homes. The airport La Aurora is situated in Guatemala City, only 45 kilometers from Antigua Guatemala.

Lodging With Guatemalan Families

La Unión Spanish School offers many more opportunity than other Spanish schools in Antigua Guatemla to live and share with Guatemalan families, located in the towns as Antigua Guatemala, Ciudad Vieja, San Miguel Escobar, San Antonio Aguas Calientes and Alotenango. The students receive 3 meals daily (vegetarian and vegan meals are accommodated as well) Monday through Saturday, 7 nights of lodging in a private room, hot shower and purified water. Living with a host family enables students to participate in family social events, and gives students the opportunity to improve their Spanish and their knowledge of cultural and historical aspects of Guatemala.

Our lodging options outside of Antigua include San Miguel Escobar (located only 3 kilometers from Antigua Guatemala), Ciudad Vieja (5 kilometers or 12 minutes away), San Antonio Aguas Calientes (9 kilometers or 20 minutes) and Alotenango (11 kilometers or 20 minutes). The homes of our host families are situated in the center of town. An interesting historical fact is that Ciudad Vieja was the second capital of the Guatemalan Kingdom back in 1525. Our Spanish school is located in Antigua Guatemala, a touristy town with all the amenities that visitors expect and with opportunities to speak your language (although this can become an issue if you really want to improve your Spanish). In Ciudad Vieja, San Miguel Escobar, San Antonio Aguas Calientes, and Alotenango, Spanish is the dominant language and tourists are not commonly seen. To travel to these villages it is necessary to take a “camioneta” (public bus) which leaves every 10 minutes. Weekly cost: $95 weekly to live in a Guatemalan family (a room with a general bathroom)or $115 if you choose to live in a room with a private bathroom; this include three meals included from Mon. to Sat. and 7 nights of lodging. The cost per extra night is: $20 with a private or shared bathroom When NOT taking Spanish lessons: 1 week $125.00 with general bathroom; 1 week $135.00 with private bathroom.

Lodging in Our Student Guesthouse

There is also the option to stay in our guesthouse (7 nights of lodging in a private room and 3 meals per day from Monday to Saturday). The guesthouse is in Antigua Guatemala and is a 5 minute walk from La Unión Spanish School and there are rooms with private or shared bathrooms available and a beautiful garden. There is a lady who eats with you during meal times so you can practice more Spanish.

Apartment or Hotel Lodging Options

La Union Spanish School in Antigua Guatemala offers two apartments inside the school surrounded by a lovely garden, with well equipped kitchens (refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, percolator and water dispenser), bedrooms and bathrooms with hot water. To wash your clothes there is a “pila” (typical Guatemalan wash tub) in the garden or you can use our laundry service (at a cost) at school. Both apartments can be rented per week or per month. Small Apartment

This cozy apartment has a living room with a sofa and comfortable armchairs right next to a homey kitchen. It has a bedroom with a double bed, cable television and a separate bathroom with a shower.

Prices: $150 per week or $575 per month. The cost per additional night is: $25.00 per apartment.

Large Apartment

This apartment has two stories and offers a veranda with a wooden table and armchairs. On the first floor there is a spacious kitchen, armchairs to rest, a guest bed and separate bathroom with a shower. On the second floor there are two bedrooms: one with a king sized bed, and the other with a double bed and a terrace with wooden armchairs from where you can enjoy a nice view.

Prices: $175 per week or $625 per month The cost per additional night is: $25.00 per apartment
